Straight-up schoolmarm


This is such a super-schoolmarm dress that it's almost shocking I wore it while on spring break. Look at that conservative hemline! Look at the bow! Straight-up schoolmarm. Instead of talking to school children about the glories of grammar when wearing this dress, I interviewed fit Lutherans for a faith story.

While I feel the dress screams schoolmarm, it also sort of mutters reporter. It has a 1940s His-Girl-Friday vibe. I just need a hat and a tailored jacket and perhaps Cary Grant yelling at me about a deadline. Highly styled hair would also help (totally never going to happen). Ooh! And red lipstick. And this photo should be black and white. Then it would be perfect.

(Dress is thrifted. Shoes are Target. Also: In my vocabulary, "schoolmarm" is kind of a synonym for "awesome.")

    hee hee - highly styled is "totally never going to happen" to my hair either... but imagination does wonders doesn't it ;)

    Yep, you've nailed the accessories possibilities well - hat, jacket, lippy, Cary...

    Just back from charity shopping this afternoon - bought my first ever 80s-as-vintage dress (I wore some of them FIRST time round...) I was quite excited spotting a label saying "made in england": that certainly dates it! xx

    What I love is how you take a dress that you feel schoolmarm about and then through your writing make it one of the most interesting pieces you could ever wear! I love the Cary Grant imagery! Is your voice like Rosalind Russell's?

    I agree -this dress is great! Definitely did not think "schoolmarm" when I saw it. I thought "jealous!" instead! Red flats would be cute with it too.
