Pretty Ladies

Here are some super pretty ladies who entertained me this September!

Peaches McGinty is hilarious, and she wears great '50s style clothes. (Want that dress. Want it.)

Also hilarious? The blog Honeystuck, which is mostly about food and health and cats (it's got a lot to say about cats), but is also occasionally about things like amazing white T-shirts.

Lili from Frocks & Frou Frou looks so demure in polka-dots. Demure, I say!

Emmylou from Scarberian Fashion Lover loves Birkenstocks as much as me. Are they ugly shoes? No! They are beautiful shoes! Comfortable shoes! Shoes to blog about!

And This is Peak's Lydia asks the question: Does losing weight make me a bad feminist? (I can answer that: No.)

Olive you

In this outfit, I am accidentally matching my baby. It wasn't on purpose, but maybe next time it will be! I was like: Thomas's in olive... I'm in olive... We must take outfit photos!

On Mommy: Stripes and polka dots because that's a great combination. On Baby: Tiger overalls. That's right. Tiger overalls.

Thomas is wearing little white socks on his feet. I'm wearing my red moccasins. We are both working it. (Everything on me is eBay except the polka dots, which are from Old Navy. Thomas' outfit is thrifted except for those adorable little socks. Adorable!)

Baby face

He's got the sweetest little baby face!

Thomas smiling is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. Truth. Sappy, sappy truth.

Paul McCartney and babies

One of my favorite things in the world: Pictures of Paul McCartney holding babies in his clothing. They are the best.

Style Icon: Emily Valentine

My parents wouldn't let me watch 90210 because, you know, scandal, but I did sneak an episode or two in here and there, and I loved me some Emily Valentine.

She wasn't on the show that long. Not like Donna or Kelly or Brandon, but she was sure memorable. She was the troubled girl who romanced Brandon (and then she really went off the rails). She was so unlike those other 90210 girls. She was cool.

She had bleached blonde hair with obvious roots. She wore leather a lot and her jeans had holes in them.

She was very boyish, but also very beautiful. You didn't see that a lot on 90210.

Whether she was cozying up with Brandon, leaving him poisoned cakes (Do I remember that right? Or they just thought it might be poisoned because she was a crazy pants?) or setting fire to a high school float (I'm pretty sure I have that part right. That's hard to forget.), Emily Valentine did it in (boyish and tough) style.

Oh eBay

This outfit comes to you courtesy of eBay. Shirt, shoes and purse: all eBay. Pants not so much, so I guess I should say most of this outfit comes to you courtesy of eBay.

Have I been hitting the eBay a little bit hard since becoming a stay-at-home mom? Maybe so.

But, um, a tooled leather purse and a pink Anthropologie shirt with Swiss dots? If these things are wrong, I don't want to be right! (Shoes: sold at Modcloth for a much higher price not so very long ago.)

I wore this to go eat Thai food and see a movie with a couple of child-free chick friends. They both met Thomas, and they both were like "Yep, no kids for me!" I'm all for people choosing to be child-free. I think it would be terrible for someone who didn't want to be a parent to do it just because that's what they feel they "should" do. I think if you have kids (or a kid), you should really, really want to be a parent.

I love being a mom to Thomas. I so badly wanted to have a baby. In fact, it was right about this time last year that I was hanging out at the ocean and feeling really melancholy about my inability to get pregnant. I'm so happy to have Thomas now, and to share him with my friends. They can ooh and aww and then hand him right back. That works for us all!

Style Icon: Betsey Johnson

Betsey Johnson is on Dancing with the Stars! I am rooting for her because I love her! Way to be 72 and awesome!

Betsey Johnson has such an infectious, joyful love of life, and it comes out in her clothing line and her personal style.

Who doesn't love a woman who wears a tutu? (Probably really cranky people I don't want to hang out with. Those people might be anti-tutu, but not me! I am pro tutu for sure.)

She is not a subtle, minimalist woman. Instead, she is all about COLOR, lots and lots of color and maybe some stripes and ruffles and Andy Warhol's Marilyn Monroe.

She wears her wackiest creations, and not only that -- she also does splits and cartwheels in them.

Betsey Johnson -- forever young, forever fabulous.

Second hand gray

I wore this little ensemble to go visit my parents with Thomas this week. Thomas loves to snuggle up with his grandma every chance he can get, and I love to leave the house! This gray dress is the result of another exciting leaving-the-house moment: thrifting with Erin. It's pretty darn comfortable and might become a wardrobe staple.

Something that's not going to be a wardrobe staple? Necklaces. Thomas, at two and a half months, is now a grabber, and this necklace came off pretty quickly because he was all about it. Isn't it a great necklace, though? Hot air balloons are the best! As seen from the ground! Or represented in jewelry! I think in reality I would be terrified to go up in one. (I went up in a tethered one once. So doesn't count.)

These are my new red moccasins, and I am in love. They were purchased from eBay and have already been broken in by someone else. Thanks someone else! I might have to get a few more pairs in different styles/colors because they are so cute and so comfortable.

Please note that black ball of fur behind me. That is my precious Sunshine Dog. She is not the star of the show anymore now that Thomas is on the scene, but she is still the best, most loved puppy! And by "puppy" I mean 13-year-old dog. Such a sweetie. She's been making my outfit photos cuter for years.

Remix - Riding boots (RIP)

Along with my heart and hips, my feet grew during my pregnancy, which means my shoe collection no longer actually fits my feet. Sadness. Such, such sadness. The shoes I will miss the most? My riding boots. I am clearly going to have to find another pair. Clearly. That is absolutely clear.

I bought these new via the wonderful Internet right before that "polar vortex" situation we had last winter. I wore them all the time. All of it.

There was a period in my life when I wore pants whenever it was really, really cold. Then I discovered that you can throw on knee-high boots and leggings, and you're just as cozy and comfortable! So, yes, there were a lot of leggings/boots combos happening last winter.

Riding boots look good with all the things -- especially heart sweaters. They also work with skinny jeans and maternity dresses and Mary-Poppins-esque purses. They are versatile, those riding boots.

I'm a pretty thrifty lady, and I generally steer clear of buying new, expensive things. These boots are a clear exception, and when it comes down to cost-per-wear, I actually think they're cheaper than a lot of thrifted heels I've bought. (Oh how I love to buy the heels and then wear them maybe once. Heels are uncomfortable! I never actually want them on my feet. But they are so pretty! So I feel compelled to buy them...) Anyway, at least I got a lot of use out of these boots before they no longer fit! It was a beautiful time, riding boots. I will also remember you fondly. It was a great love. A true love. A shoe love.

Style Icon: Rhoda Morgenstern

Oh Rhoda, Queen of the Head Scarf.

When I think fabulous '70s fabulousnes, I think Rhoda Morgenstern. Yes, yes I do.

Doesn't she look great? I love her bohemian vibe. The above look is my favorite ever.

Rhoda and Mary are such cute friends. Mary's a lot more trendy and Rhoda is more... heavily accessorized.

I love that Rhoda went from being the funny best friend to having her own television show. I also love all the bright prints, headscarves and costume jewelry she wore on that television show.

I mean, come on, in this look she's has a polka-dotted headscarf and lots and lots of bangles! She really does scream '70s, but I think you could wear pretty much all the Rhoda-liciousness today. I probably don't have it in me to wear a headscarf and a bright print and a ton of bangles and a giant necklace. But one of those items at a time? For sure! Rhoda, on the other hand, she throws it all together, and that's why she's a style icon.
