Funny Face

I love Audrey Hepburn's beatnik dancing in "Funny Face." As seen (awesomely) here.

Polka dots on a blustery day

A storm was a-coming...

So I went outside to take pictures of my new-to-me polka dot dress before it was too late.

Things became down-right blustery.

Two minutes after the pictures were taken, the bottom fell out and it poured and poured. I love storms! I also love this dress. It is thrifted Ralph Lauren. I was so excited when I saw it and then tried to temper that excitement because the tag alleged it was too small... but I tried it on, and it fit perfectly. I had a very emotional reaction to this and had to sit down on the bench in the dressing room and compose myself. Oh the emotional roller-coaster of second-hand shopping.

Shorts in February

Yesterday, I was convinced spring had hit North Carolina. It was in the 60s, my allergies had flared up and I was very comfortable wearing shorts. This evening, frozen rain has arrived. Very wintry weather, I tell you what. North Carolina weather is all over the place. It's okay. Keeps things interesting. But yesterday? The weather was delicious.

I wore the most adorable flats ever. They were given to me by my sister for Christmas. Such cuteness. In the above picture, I am wearing the flats, but you might not have noticed. Are you looking at the adorable dog instead of the adorable flats? Understandable.

Here we go. Dog is out of the frame so we can focus on those little multi-colored bows. They are magical.

Stripes, sweater, shorts = terribly comfortable weekend wear. I've been under the weather (so many weather references in this blog post!) and it's nice to stay comfy and casual. Excellent napping attire.

Extreme close-up of freshwater pearl earring. Extreme close-ups are only acceptable when there is jewelry involved.Perhaps tomorrow morning they will match the snow on the ground. Or maybe the sun will be out again. Who knows? (I suppose I could look at the weather report, but where's the fun in that?)

After-party dress

I've blogged about this dress before. It's the perfect party dress (and by "party dress" I don't mean anything retro or cutesy -- I mean I literally like to wear this dress to parties). I thrifted it at Goodwill and then several months later found a matching dress in gray in a larger size that seems to fit exactly the same. What party am I wearing this perfect party dress to? I'm going to a play directed by a fabulous friend and starring two other fabulous friends. Clearly, I had to look my best. There will be an after party after the play so tonight, this is my perfect after-party dress.

The pattern is nuts. I love it. I used to buy every oddly-patterned fitted dress I saw. I don't wear that look quite so often now, but this dress is still one of my favorites.

Why am I pointing here? Because posing is awkward, people. It just is. And Robert started giving directions to me including "Point over there! A little bit higher! No, lower!" and so I did. So now we have a pointing picture. You're welcome.

These are my freshwater pearl earrings from Sleepy Poet Antique Mall in Charlotte. I may never take them off. Freshwater pearls make me think of shopping with my Grandma in Chinatown in San Francisco. I like them more than normal pearls. They're just fresher.

This is Robert. We also bought that snazzy vintage vest at the Sleepy Poet Antique Mall. I LOVE it. He's putting his hat over his face because he's not sure he wants to be all up on my blog.Too late, Robert. You married a writer, man. An over-sharer. Blogs happen. They just do. And this blog already includes pictures of you.

(Did you like how I rhymed that last little bit? Just going the extra mile for my readers.)

Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day to my husband of nine months!

Newlyweds are nauseating. It's not our fault.

Librarian chic

Um, these shoes are kind of a big deal.

Are they a bit old lady? A bit librarian? A bit 1942? You bet they are! That's why they're so awesome! I saw them at a small-town thrift-store and swooned.

They are perfect for my schoolmarm look, but sadly, I don't actually want to wear them to school as they have these things called heels. Heels are no good for days spent standing. Just a little wisdom from me to you. Standing and heels = not friends.

Polka dots.

It's all about polka dots.

Big polka dots, small polka dots, polka dots, polka dots, polka dots.

You see, I'm kind of a fan of polka dots. Powder blue ones get the title credit, but, really, it's hard to do better than classic black and white.

As seen here.

"Winter" wear

Today, I fed my inner child a doughnut with a ton of colorful sprinkles. My inner child was very happy. My outer adult was all like "Didn't you say you were giving up sugar? What's going on? What's happening here?" Sprinkles, people. They are irresistible. That is what's going on. That is what's happening here.

This is what I wore to feed my inner child and be chastised by my outer adult.

The big ol' sweater has a big ol' collar. My opinion about it changes every time I wear it.

But that sweater is old news. These boots are new! As in I actually bought them without someone else owning them first. I've been wanting boots like this for a long time and finally went for it. I bought them from Delia's online. That pleased my inner 14 year old.

This is what the sweater looks like when the big ol' collar isn't all buttoned up. I prefer the sweater this way.

Here, I'm pretending it's cold. Because it's February. And it's supposed to be cold in February.

But actually I spent my doughnut-date with Robert dressed like this. (But my facial expression was less ridiculous and more normal and human and pleasant.) I was too warm in the sweater. This dress isn't amazing from the front, but the back?

The back is where it's at! Look at that! There are buttons! And a cut out! Yes!

The back of my boots are a pretty big deal too. I plan to wear these for the rest of the winter. And by winter, I might mean "winter." I'll wear these as long as it's cooler than 65 degrees.

(Dress and sweater thrifted. Boots: Delias's. Sock tights: Who knows. I probably bought them from Delia's when I was 14 years old.)

Bowling shoes

I went to my in-laws' house and was given free shoes. My mother-in-law and I are the same shoe size, and she found these bowling-style shoes uncomfortable so I snatched them up. How cute/ugly are they?  I really always wanted a pair of bowling shoes to call my very own. And I match Robert's shoes.Which is maybe annoying. Or maybe adorable. I say adorable, but I might be biased.
