"Show Boat" was one of those musicals I watched over and over and over as a kid. I have a long list of them as I was a musical-obsessed child. "Show Boat" is about a boat that travels along the Mississippi River and the people who own it/ work on it. Customers come on the boat to watch plays -- musicals actually. There's a lot of drama. Bad guys and gambling and so on and so forth.
My love for the movie is twofold. Fold one: Ava Gardner is Ava Gardner. Can you believe this big-screen goddess came from a small town in North Carolina?
Fold two: the song "Old Man River." My favorite lyrics -- "I get weary and sick of trying/ I'm tired of living and scared of dying." Okay. Little bit of a bummer, yes, but such a great song!
And that voice! What a voice.

I've only seen bits and pieces of the movie, but I do have the Broadway Cast soundtrack, and listened to that over and over when I was high school. I love Can't Help Loving That Man:)
